Clean Response was eager to host the State Fire Marshall for a special Fire Safety Seminar for a number of our Insurance providers. We spent the day hearing from Deputy State Fire Marshall Amanda Swenson about different tips and tricks to keep fires out of your home and how to control them in the event of emergency. Amanda’s most important tip? Pay attention in the kitchen. Stovetops, ovens, and candles make the kitchen especially susceptible to damaging fires, and this is where the Fire Department sees most house fires beginning. Make sure all members of your household know where fire extinguishers are located and the proper way to use them.
The holidays are a time to be extra cautious about fire safety. Between logs burning in a fireplace, cinnamon scented candles, and grandma’s favorite dish cooking on the stove, there is an increased amount of activity that could lead to disaster. As Dan Butler from Butler & Associates Insurance Agency, Inc. notes in our latest video featuring Clean Response’s fire safety and prevention seminar, “kids, kitties and candles don’t mix.” Keep a close eye on the activity of children. Be sure they are a safe distance from flames at all times and consider removing candles from the area when children are present.
