Frozen Pipes After Winter Vacation Tips

Like any other Minnesota winter, Minnesotans have to deal with cold days and excess snow.  Many of us leave our cold winter home for the sunny Florida or Phoenix weather. However, while you snowbirds were away, your homes had to deal with unpredictable temperatures and heavy snow. These conditions can cause frozen pipe bursts and potential water leakage for your home.

If you are returning home to frozen or cracked pipes or water damage, Clean Response wants to provide you with a step-by-step emergency solution.

  • To begin, turn off all water lines. Water leakage can often stream into electrical circuits or light switches, so call a power company to prevent risk of electrocution.
  • Dispose of damaged items around the area and call a local emergency company like Clean Response to assist in the water clean-up.
  • If your home or belongings contain water damage, Clean Response can handle the drying of many of these possessions, including valuables like expensive area rugs, antiques, artwork and kitchen appliances.
  • Make sure to conduct a moisture and mold inspection. Our crews can inspect and provide an estimate of clean-up and repairs.
  • Coordinate with your insurance company. We recommend documenting all damaged items by photographs and description, which will be beneficial when filing insurance claims. Clean Response can also help coordinate with your insurance company.

If you didn’t review your insurance policy for flood damage coverage before your departure, it’s a good time to do it when you return — hopefully with your home still intact.

If you do, unfortunately, return from a winter vacation spot to discover water damage or broken pipes, Clean Response will work with you in every step of your clean-up. Our goal is to bring normalcy back to your home.  Click here to learn more on our services.
